Life is a walk in the park.

Today we thought we would cover one of the scariest things a new dog owner could do - and that is to take their dog to the park.

Taking your dog to the park is one of the most rewarding things you can do for both you and your canine. Here's a few helpful tips to get you and your furry friend going.

Tip 1: Be relaxed, sometimes the biggest mistake you can make when going to the dog park for the first time is to start off stressed. Have a cup of coffee, sit back and play with your dog before leaving. This way you are both in a better mood and ready for the day!

Tip 2: Greet people. Yes, greet the people that you meet at the dog park. Half the time they are more worried than you and if you look very closely you will see it a mile away. Making eyes contact and greeting people you go by is a great way of defusing the situation and it also gives your dog a chance to hear your calm voice.

Tip 3: Walk your dog on lead for the first 5 - 10 minutes. This will help your dog get used to the new environment and burn off a little extra energy before you release them. This also helps teach your dog to be calm and collected when coming to the park.

Tip 4: Practice some obedience during your walk in the park. Now is a good time to teach your dog how to sit and come when called. It will also help remind your canine that whilst you are walking in the park we still need to behave and listen when required.

Our final tip - Have fun! Make the walk in the park as fun for your dog as you possibly can. Throw a ball and do some recall during the walk, you won't regret it!
